Gasperini to Depart Atalanta After Successful Nine-Year Tenure

Atalanta are set to lose their long-serving coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who has confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of his contract in 2025.

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has announced that he does not intend to renew his contract with the Serie A club. However, he is open to exploring the option of extending his current deal until 2026. Gasperini, who has been at the helm of Atalanta since 2016, has transformed the club into Champions League regulars, achieving remarkable success during his nine-year tenure.

Under Gasperini's leadership, Atalanta won the Europa League trophy last season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the final. The 67-year-old coach is currently under contract until June 2025, with an option to extend it by a year. When asked about Atalanta's chances of securing Champions League qualification this season, Gasperini told reporters, “I have little time to do this, maybe it's the last one.”

Gasperini reflected on his future at the club, stating, “Rightly so, as has been said there is a beginning and an end, we'll see at the end of the year whether to go for expiry or to stop, certainly there will be no continuity. There will be no further renewal and continuity.” This announcement marks a significant development in Gasperini's tenure at Atalanta, with his future at the club hanging in the balance.

Gian Piero Gasperini's coaching career has been marked by several notable stints, including his early days with Juventus' youth team. He later went on to manage Genoa, where he achieved significant success, guiding the team to promotion to Serie A in 2007 after a 12-year absence from the top flight. Gasperini's experience and expertise were instrumental in Genoa's resurgence, and he has since built on that success with other notable coaching spells.

Gasperini's managerial career has also included time at Inter Milan and Palermo, where he gained valuable experience and honed his coaching skills. His versatility and adaptability have been key factors in his success, and he has consistently demonstrated an ability to inspire and motivate his teams. Gasperini's decision to step down as Atalanta coach at the end of his contract marks the end of an era, but his legacy will undoubtedly continue to shape the club's future.
