Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund Cruise Past Union Berlin with 6-0 Victory

Borussia Dortmund moved within seven points of the Bundesliga top four with a resounding 6-0 win over Union Berlin, thanks to Serhou Guirassy's four-goal haul.

Borussia Dortmund reignited their Bundesliga top-four hopes with a resounding 6-0 victory over Union Berlin at Signal Iduna Park, thanks in large part to Serhou Guirassy's incredible four-goal haul. With only one win in their previous six matches, Dortmund desperately needed a win to stay within touching distance of the top four. The convincing victory has narrowed the gap to seven points, reigniting their ambitions.

Union Berlin created the first scoring opportunity of the game, but Danilho Doekhi's header sailed over the bar from close range within the opening five minutes. Dortmund, however, soon took control of the match, enjoying a dominant first half. They broke the deadlock midway through the half, albeit with a stroke of luck. Julian Ryerson's low drive, which was heading wide, deflected off Diego Leite and looped over Frederik Ronnow, nestling in the back of the net.

As the first half progressed, Dortmund continued to exert their pressure. Pascal Gross struck the crossbar from close range, and although Benedict Hollerbach tested Gregor Kobel, the home team's dominance paid off with a second goal. Gross delivered a pinpoint cross onto the head of Guirassy, who scored his 20th goal of the season in all competitions with a simple header. This goal gave Dortmund a 2-0 lead at the break, setting the stage for a resounding victory.

After the interval, Dortmund resumed their dominance, with Serhou Guirassy narrowly missing the target as he fired over the crossbar. Maximilian Beier then forced Frederik Ronnow into a comfortable save, before squandering a gilt-edged opportunity when he missed the target entirely from the back post. Pascal Gross also tested Ronnow's reflexes during this period, as Dortmund continued to dictate the tempo of the game. Karim Adeyemi's effort struck the foot of the post, but Guirassy soon made amends, scoring his second goal of the game with a powerful finish from six yards out, effectively sealing the contest.

Guirassy's third goal arrived shortly after, as he tapped in from virtually on the goalline after Beier's pass had created the opportunity. Union Berlin's response was muted, which was hardly surprising given their struggles in front of goal this season. As the second-lowest scorers in the Bundesliga, Union's lack of attacking potency was exposed by Dortmund's dominant display. Guirassy's fourth goal of the game rubbed salt into Union's wounds, as he headed home from a Gross cross. The scoring was finally completed by Beier, who benefited from another Gross assist, as Dortmund ran out 6-0 winners.

This comprehensive defeat leaves Union Berlin 10 points clear of the automatic relegation places and nine points above the relegation play-off spot. Meanwhile, Dortmund's victory ends a run of two consecutive losses and marks their second consecutive clean sheet, a welcome boost to their top-four ambitions.
