Baltimore Orioles Trade for Cubs' Infield Prospect Luis Vazquez

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired infielder Luis Vazquez from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations, adding depth to their infield ahead of the 2025 season.

The Baltimore Orioles have bolstered their infield depth by acquiring 25-year-old Luis Vazquez from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations. To make room for Vazquez on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated Emmanuel Rivera for assignment. Vazquez, who made his MLB debut with the Cubs last season, will look to capitalize on his fresh start with the Orioles.

Although Vazquez's brief MLB stint was marked by a 1-for-12 performance, his minor league numbers suggest he has more to offer. In Triple-A last season, Vazquez posted a respectable .263/.347/.432/.779 slash line, accompanied by eight home runs and 24 RBI. His 2023 campaign, split between Double-A and Triple-A, was even more impressive, as he hit 20 home runs with 80 RBI and a .271 batting average.

The Orioles are hopeful that Vazquez can tap into this potential and contribute to the team's success in the future. Originally drafted by the Cubs in the 14th round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of Puerto Rico, Vazquez retains his rookie status for the 2025 season, having played just 11 games for the Cubs last year. With a clean slate, Vazquez will aim to make a lasting impression with his new team.
