Lille OSC bounced back from consecutive defeats to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 for only the second time since 2007. They achieved this feat in sensational fashion, hammering Feyenoord 6-1 in their final league phase fixture, with a trio of own goals contributing to the rout.

The hosts, reeling from losses to Strasbourg and Liverpool in their last two outings, had a golden opportunity to open the scoring within the first minute. Osame Sahraoui, however, dragged his shot wide from near the penalty spot. He made amends shortly afterwards, sliding home a low effort from a tight angle after making a perfectly timed run onto a defence-splitting pass.

Lucas Chevalier was soon called into action at the other end, denying Igor Paixao with a save. However, the goalkeeper was powerless to stop Feyenoord equalizing from the resulting corner. Santiago Giménez poked home from close range after receiving Gernot Trauner's knock-down, levelling the score.

Lille continued to dictate the pace of the game, with Thomas Meunier having a shot saved, while Mitchel Bakker and Remy Cabella fired wide. Their persistence eventually paid off, as Trauner stabbed into his own net from a deflected Sahraoui cross, giving Lille a 2-1 lead at the break.

Feyenoord's woes deepened as they suffered injuries to key players Santiago Gimenez and goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, who both limped off the field. Their night took a turn for the worse after halftime, as Lille doubled their lead through another own goal. David Hancko inadvertently diverted an Angel Gomes cross past Timon Wellenreuther, leaving Feyenoord reeling.

The second own goal killed off Feyenoord's momentum, and Lille capitalized on their dominance. Jonathan David crashed home a fourth goal, cutting inside the area and firing into the bottom corner. This strike made him Canada's all-time leading scorer in the UCL. The floodgates had opened, and Lille continued to pour on the goals.

The scoring continued as Osame Sahraoui grabbed another assist, his low cross scrambled home by Gernot Trauner, who bagged his second own goal of the night. The sixth goal arrived through Remy Cabella, who nodded home another Sahraoui flick. This resounding 6-1 victory condemned Feyenoord to a play-off place, while Lille celebrated their biggest ever win in European football.
