Raiders Embark on Coaching Search After Firing GM and Head Coach
The Las Vegas Raiders have fired GM Tom Telesco and head coach Antonio Pierce, sparking a search for replacements, with Tom Brady potentially involved.
The Las Vegas Raiders have parted ways with general manager Tom Telesco, 52, after just one season in the role. Telesco was hired in January 2024, following his departure from the Los Angeles Chargers, where he spent 11 years before being fired midway through the 2023 season.
The decision to fire Telesco comes on the heels of the team's dismissal of head coach Antonio Pierce, who was let go just two days prior. The Raiders concluded the season with a 4-13 record.
In a statement, the team announced Telesco's departure. Notably, Telesco's first draft pick as Raiders GM, tight end Brock Bowers, had a historic rookie season, earning a spot on the NFLPA's First Team All-Pro squad. Bowers' impressive performance included 1,194 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 115 receptions, putting him in contention to become the first rookie tight end in NFL history to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The Las Vegas Raiders are now embarking on a search for a new general manager and head coach, following the departures of Tom Telesco and Antonio Pierce. Interestingly, minority owner Tom Brady may have a role in shaping the team's future by influencing the hiring process.
The NFL's coaching landscape is undergoing a significant overhaul, with numerous firings and interviews taking place in rapid succession. The Raiders have already requested interviews with several prominent candidates, including Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, and Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, as they seek to fill their head coaching vacancy.
As the Raiders navigate their coaching search, they also hold the sixth overall pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. This marks a valuable opportunity for the team to bolster their roster, having last held a top-10 draft pick in 2023 when they selected outside linebacker Tyree Wilson from Texas Tech.
