Morocco Unveils 9 Stadiums for 2025 AFCON Finals
Morocco has selected nine stadiums across six cities to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, with Rabat's Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah set to host the final match.
Morocco has selected nine stadiums across six cities to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, which are scheduled to take place from December 2025 to January 2026. The announcement was made by the local organising committee on Monday, just hours before the tournament draw.
The capital city of Rabat will play a significant role in the tournament, with four stadiums selected to host matches. The Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah, which has a capacity of 69,500, will host the final, as well as the opening match and a semi-final. The stadium in Tangier, which has undergone renovations, will also host a semi-final.
Casablanca's iconic Mohammed V stadium, which hosted the final when Morocco last hosted the AFCON in 1988, will this time host a quarter-final. Other cities hosting matches include Agadir, Fes, and Marrakech, with each city's stadium earmarked for a quarter-final. The 24-team tournament will take place from December 21st, 2025, to January 18th, 2026.
Morocco is also gearing up to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal. As part of its preparations, the country plans to build a massive 115,000-seater stadium on the outskirts of Casablanca by 2027. The stadium, which will be one of the largest in the world, is expected to cost up to $500 million. Morocco hopes that this stadium could potentially host the 2030 World Cup final.
In addition to the stadiums selected for the AFCON, Morocco also plans to upgrade the stadiums in Agadir, Fes, and Marrakech after the tournament. These stadiums are candidates to be World Cup host cities, and the upgrades will help prepare them for the 2030 tournament. The stadiums in Rabat and Tangier are currently undergoing renovations ahead of the AFCON.
