Mikel Arteta Praises Ruben Amorim's Start at Manchester United
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised Manchester United's new boss Ruben Amorim, ahead of their FA Cup third-round clash.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been impressed by the impact new boss Ruben Amorim has had on Manchester United, ahead of their FA Cup third-round clash on Sunday. “Look at how they perform against the big teams... and the results they got,” Arteta told reporters on Friday.
Arteta acknowledged that Amorim's appointment has brought about a change in United's performances, particularly in big games. Arsenal had handed Amorim his first loss as United manager in a 2-0 Premier League win last month. However, United have since shown promise with a 2-1 win at Manchester City and a 2-2 draw at leaders Liverpool.
Arteta reflected on the different challenges that come with a new managerial appointment. “I think every manager, when he gets appointed, it's for a reason. The reasons can be different. Sometimes it's just to improve a football team... sometimes it's to transform a football club. That's a totally different dimension of a job.”
FA Cup holders Manchester United have struggled recently, losing four consecutive matches before Sunday's draw, and failing to keep a clean sheet in their last nine matches. In contrast, Arsenal had been in strong form, scoring 13 goals in five matches before Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Newcastle in the League Cup.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged that new United boss Ruben Amorim would need time to implement his ideas and get the best out of his team. “It's tough because obviously you need time to implement your ideas, especially your way of playing, and explaining that. And when you have that many games, it's tricky,” he said.

Arteta noted that United have undergone changes since the two teams last met over five weeks ago. “I'm expecting a few different things,” he added. Despite the challenges, Arteta is looking forward to the match, saying, "/“It's a beautiful game to play against a massive club and they will bring lots of supporters. The memory of winning something and sharing it with people is the ultimate goal.”
