Maresca Provides Update on Renato Veiga's Chelsea Future

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has addressed rumors surrounding Renato Veiga's future at the club, stating that he is unaware of any agreement for the player's departure

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is eager to see his team build on their FA Cup win over the weekend and get their Premier League campaign back on track when they face Bournemouth on Tuesday. A run of five consecutive league victories had propelled Chelsea to second in the standings, but a four-game winless streak has seen them drop to fourth, 10 points behind leaders Liverpool. However, Saturday's 5-0 FA Cup win over Morecambe has provided a welcome boost ahead of the Bournemouth clash.

Maresca is aware that facing Bournemouth will be a different challenge altogether. “Hopefully we can build some momentum but Bournemouth will be a very different game,” he told reporters on Monday. “They are a very good team, very tough, very intense.” Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last eight league games and sit just three points behind Chelsea in the standings.

On the injury front, Maresca provided a positive update on winger Noni Madueke, who missed Saturday's game. “Noni is 100% fit,” the manager confirmed. Additionally, Maresca was pleased to see Reece James and Romeo Lavia start in the FA Cup win, as both players have struggled with hamstring injuries recently. “We are very happy for both,” Maresca said. “They played 45 minutes and are available. Since we started, we are trying to manage both because of their delicate situations.”

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has stated that the club does not need to sell players during the January transfer window, but acknowledged that some players may leave in search of more game time. One player who has been linked with a departure is defender Ben Chilwell, but Maresca confirmed that another defender, Renato Veiga, is not yet a confirmed departure. Veiga, who joined Chelsea in July, has made only one league start this season and has been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund.

Maresca provided an update on Veiga's situation, stating that he is currently unaware of any agreement for the player's departure. “At the moment, I am not aware that there is an agreement for Renato,” Maresca said. The Chelsea manager also highlighted Veiga's commitment to the team, noting that he was present at training on Saturday and would be again on Monday. “Yesterday he was here working with us and today he will be here. At the moment, he is our player.”

Maresca also praised Veiga's performances for Chelsea, highlighting his versatility and ability to play in different positions. “The only thing I can say is that we bought Renato from Basel, he has played in different positions and has played well,” Maresca said. The manager's comments suggest that Veiga remains a valued member of the Chelsea squad, and that any decision regarding his future will be made with careful consideration.
