Jets Bring Back Aaron Glenn for Second Interview in Head Coach Search

The New York Jets have scheduled a second interview with Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn for their head coach vacancy, as reported by NFL Network.

The New York Jets have arranged a second interview with Aaron Glenn, the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, as they continue their search for a new head coach, according to NFL Network. This development comes on the heels of the Lions' unexpected loss to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs.

Glenn's second interview with the Jets takes place as another key member of the Lions' coaching staff, Ben Johnson, prepares to depart for a new role. Johnson was announced as the new head coach of the Chicago Bears on Monday. Glenn, 52, has been the Lions' defensive coordinator since 2021 and may be poised to follow Johnson out of Detroit.

Despite battling a severe injury bug throughout the season, the Lions' defense made significant strides under Glenn's leadership. They finished the season ranked 20th overall but an impressive seventh in scoring. One notable highlight came on December 5th, when the Lions' defense made several crucial stands in a thrilling 34-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers.

Glenn's tenure as defensive coordinator has been marked by gradual improvement. After ranking near the bottom of the league in his first two seasons, the Lions' defense took a significant leap forward this year. Safety Kerby Joseph had a breakout season, leading the league with nine interceptions and earning his first All-Pro selection. The Lions finished the season ranked sixth in total interceptions, a testament to Glenn's defensive prowess.
