Jermaine Wattimena Reflects on World Championship Loss and Dutch Darts Masters Win

Jermaine Wattimena discusses his World Championship loss to Peter Wright and his recent win over Luke Humphries in the Dutch Darts Masters.

Jermaine Wattimena, the hometown hero, expressed his delight after securing a stunning 6-3 victory over Luke Humphries in the round-of-16 of the Dutch Darts Masters. Wattimena's win over the former world champion and current world number one was a significant upset, and he attributed his success to a recent break. Just two days prior to the match, Wattimena had returned from a two-week holiday in Indonesia, and he felt rejuvenated as a result.

Wattimena revealed that his time off had a profoundly positive impact on his performance. “I have to be honest: the rest has done me well,” he said during the post-match press conference. Wattimena explained that his holiday had left him feeling refreshed and focused. “We went on holiday for two weeks and came back Wednesday - it sent me onto the stage with a great feeling.” Despite a less-than-ideal warm-up session, Wattimena's mental clarity and renewed energy helped him deliver a standout performance.

Wattimena's focused mindset played a crucial role in his victory over Humphries. “The warm-up didn't go as well, but once I got on stage, I was very focused,” he noted. Wattimena's concentration and determination ultimately paid off, as he secured a well-deserved win. “It went well, so nothing to complain about,” he concluded, clearly satisfied with his performance.

Jermaine Wattimena's recent World Championship campaign was a respectable one, but it ultimately ended in a 4-2 loss to Peter Wright in the third round. However, Wattimena admitted that he didn't dwell on the defeat, especially during his relaxing getaway to Bali. “I played a good World Championship and a good match against Peter Wright,” he reflected. “His checkouts were very good. There's not much to reflect on since he played such a good game.”

Wattimena's time off proved beneficial, as he carried a renewed sense of energy and focus onto the stage. Although he did experience some nerves as he neared victory, he managed to compose himself and secure the win. “When I was 5-2 up I did get some nerves, but that's normal,” Wattimena acknowledged. “The last dart was all-or-nothing and it went in, so that was nice.” He was pleased with his overall performance, stating, “I'm delighted with how I threw tonight, I will take that with me to tomorrow.”
