Inter Milan Focus on One Game at a Time, Says Assistant Coach Farris

Inter Milan assistant coach Massimiliano Farris praised his team's maturity after their 3-1 win over Empoli, while Lautaro Martinez acknowledged the challenge of catching Serie A leaders Napoli.

Inter Milan's assistant coach Massimiliano Farris expressed his satisfaction with the team's maturity following their 3-1 home victory over Empoli on Sunday. With manager Simone Inzaghi serving a touchline ban, Farris took charge and led the team to a convincing win, courtesy of goals from Lautaro Martinez, Denzel Dumfries, and Marcus Thuram.

Farris praised the team's approach, highlighting their maturity in handling the game. “The team had a very mature approach; it doesn’t always mean coming out aggressively,” he told reporters. “We immediately found an Empoli side that focused on closing spaces at the back.” Farris emphasized that the team's work in the first half laid the foundation for their success in the second half. “Often, games are unlocked in the second half due to the work done in the first,” he noted. The decisive moment came when Lautaro Martinez scored, and Farris acknowledged the Argentine striker's impact. “And when Lautaro (Martinez) does what Lautaro does, there are no issues,” he said.

Massimiliano Farris emphasized that Inter Milan is not focusing on the Serie A table, despite being just three points behind leaders Napoli with a game in hand. “We focus on the games to be played: before the match, we were six points behind, now it's three,” he explained. Farris stressed the importance of taking things one game at a time, rather than getting distracted by the bigger picture. “Right now, we don’t have time to look at the calendar, we only think about what needs to be done,” he said.

Lautaro Martinez, who scored in Inter's 3-1 win over Empoli, acknowledged that catching Napoli will be a tough challenge. “It’s going to be fascinating,” he told DAZN. Martinez emphasized the importance of focusing on Inter's own path, rather than getting caught up in the title race. “We are three behind, we have a game in hand, but as always we need to focus on our own path, because Inter have to do better every single year,” he said.
