Injury Crisis: Enzo Maresca Confirms Long-Term Absences for Fofana and Badiashile
Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile ruled out for extended period, prompting Enzo Maresca to consider transfer market options.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has delivered a devastating update on the injury front, confirming that Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile will be out for an extended period. The Blues' defense has been dealt a significant blow, leaving Maresca to ponder his options in the transfer market.
“For sure, Fofana and Badiashile will be out for a long time, so we'll see what we decide to do on the market,” Maresca said, hinting at potential reinforcements. The Italian manager's concerns are justified, given the severity of the injuries.
Regarding Fofana's situation, Maresca revealed that the initial prognosis was for a 5-week absence, but further tests yielded worse news. “Unfortunately, there's a risk Wesley Fofana could be out for the entire season,” Maresca admitted. “We don't know exactly yet, but it's a huge loss.”
Badiashile's injury is also expected to keep him sidelined for an extended period. “Wes Fofana will be out for a very long time. Benoit Badiashile will be out at least until February,” Maresca confirmed. “Unfortunately, we will lose them for a long time.”
With Fofana and Badiashile out, attention turns to Chelsea's recent signing, Aaron Anselmino. The young defender's readiness to fill the gap or potentially being sent on loan remains to be seen. Maresca's decision will be crucial in determining Anselmino's immediate future.
