The Miami Heat announced a seven-game suspension for six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler, citing “multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team” over the course of the season, particularly in recent weeks. In a statement, the Heat said, “We have suspended Jimmy Butler for seven games for multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team over the course of the season and particularly the last several weeks.”

The Heat's statement also acknowledged that Butler has expressed his desire to be traded, stating, “Through his actions and statements, he has shown he no longer wants to be part of this team. Jimmy Butler and his representative have indicated that they wish to be traded, therefore, we will listen to offers.” This development may lead to Butler's departure from the team, potentially before his suspension is served.

Butler's suspension will keep him sidelined until a January 17 home game against Denver, causing him to miss Saturday's home game against Utah and a six-game west coast road trip. However, it's possible that the Heat may have found a trade deal for the 35-year-old playmaker by then. Butler recently expressed his desire to regain his passion for playing basketball, saying, “I want to see me getting my joy back playing basketball. Wherever that may be, we'll find out here pretty soon.”

This season, Butler has averaged 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game for the Heat, who currently sit sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 17-15 record. Butler, in his 15th NBA season, has played a crucial role in the Heat's success, leading the team to the 2020 NBA Finals, where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers, and the 2023 finals, where Miami was beaten by Denver.
