Harry Kane Hopes Bayern Munich Will Keep 'Great' Eric Dier
Harry Kane has called on Bayern Munich to extend Eric Dier's contract, praising his former Tottenham and England teammate as 'great', and backed the team to win a trophy this season.
Harry Kane, the 31-year-old England captain, has publicly expressed his support for his former Tottenham Hotspur and England teammate Eric Dier, urging Bayern Munich to extend the defender's contract. Dier, also 31, made a surprise move to Bayern Munich in January 2024 and has since established himself as a reliable option, playing 31 games for the German giants.
Despite facing competition from central defenders Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, Dier has started three of his past four league games for Bayern. Kane praised Dier's contributions, saying, “Eric's been great, he's been waiting patiently, obviously Upa (Upamecano) and Min-jae have been fantastic this season, so Eric's just had to bide his time.” Kane acknowledged that Dier has taken advantage of his recent opportunities, adding, “He's come in the last couple of games and done really, really well, and got two clean sheets...”
Kane reiterated his desire for Dier to remain at Bayern Munich, stating, “Yeah, of course I'd love Eric to stay.” However, he also recognized that the decision ultimately lies with Dier and the club, saying, “I guess that's between him and the club, I haven't had any conversations with him, so we'll have to see.”

Harry Kane and Eric Dier have shared a long and storied partnership, having played together in a staggering 386 matches across various teams, including Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur, and England at both junior and senior levels. This extensive experience has fostered a deep understanding and camaraderie between the two players.
Despite Bayern Munich's uncharacteristic trophyless season in 2023-24, Kane remains optimistic about the team's prospects for the current year. The England captain reflected on the differences between the two seasons, saying, “Last year there were games where we were struggling but we just found a way to win.” In contrast, Kane believes that Bayern has become a more dominant force this season, stating, “It's been a bit different this year... we've been dominating every game we've played. We're becoming a really dominant team in Germany and in Europe.”
