German Police Detain 59 PSG Fans Ahead of Champions League Match

German police have detained 59 Paris Saint-Germain fans in Stuttgart to prevent potential clashes with local supporters ahead of their Champions League match.

German police have taken proactive measures to prevent potential clashes between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans and local supporters ahead of their Champions League match against VfB Stuttgart. On Tuesday, authorities detained 59 PSG fans, who will remain in custody until Thursday, a day after the game, to avoid any crowd trouble.

The decision to detain the fans was made after police received information about planned clashes in Stuttgart. Both teams are vying for a playoff spot that could lead to the last 16, making the match a high-stakes encounter. According to the Stuttgart police, the detained fans were found at the main train station and various hotels in Stuttgart through “intensive investigations and in close cooperation with the Paris police.”

The police statement revealed that “among other things, masking material was discovered” among the detained fans, prompting concerns about potential rioting. To prevent this, the authorities decided to take the fans into custody until Thursday morning, following consultation with a judge. Additionally, 47 Stuttgart supporters deemed high-risk have been banned from the city centre.
