Europa League Fan Violence: Real Sociedad Fans Injured in Rome


Nine Real Sociedad fans were injured in clashes with Lazio ultras in Rome ahead of their Europa League match, with police reporting the use of blunt objects and knives.



Clashes between Real Sociedad fans and Lazio ultras in central Rome left nine Spanish supporters injured on the eve of the teams' Europa League match. The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 23:00 CET in Via Leonina, near the iconic Colosseum.


According to a Rome police spokesperson, around 80 Lazio supporters attacked a group of about 70 Real Sociedad fans using various blunt objects and knives. Police released images of the presumed weapons used in the assault, including a hammer, sticks, batons, wrenches, and a chain.


The attackers fled the scene as police arrived, the spokesperson reported. The incident has raised concerns about fan safety ahead of the Europa League match between Real Sociedad and Lazio.
