Danish Handball Teams Experience Mixed Results in Champions League
Team Esbjerg edged Rapid Bucuresti 28-26 in the Champions League, while Nykøbing Falster suffered a 27-29 loss to CSM Bucuresti, leaving them at the bottom of their group.
Danish handball teams, Team Esbjerg and Nykøbing Falster, faced off against Romanian opposition in the Champions League on Sunday, with differing outcomes. Team Esbjerg secured another win in Europe's top competition, defeating Rapid Bucuresti, while Nykøbing Falster remained at the bottom of their group after a loss to CSM Bucuresti.
Team Esbjerg was put to the test by Rapid Bucuresti in a closely contested first half. However, the Danish team's resilience paid off, as they delivered a stronger performance in the second half. Esbjerg started brightly, but Rapid's goalkeeper, Denisa Sandru, made an impressive 11 saves at halftime, maintaining a save efficiency of 48%. Sandru's outstanding reflexes kept Esbjerg at bay, but when her saves finally dried up, Henny Reistad capitalized on the opportunity, leading the Danes to a narrow 28-26 victory in the Romanian capital.
Nykøbing Falster's struggles continued as they suffered a tough 27-29 loss to CSM Bucuresti, leaving them at the bottom of their group. The Danish team failed to find their rhythm, converting only 28% of their shots in the first half. In contrast, CSM Bucuresti's goalkeeper, Gabriela Moreschi, and right back, Monika Kobylinska, played instrumental roles in their team's dominance. CSM Bucuresti's largest lead was eight goals during the second half, but Nykøbing Falster managed to close the gap to 24-25 with eight minutes remaining. Despite the late surge, CSM Bucuresti held their ground and secured the win.
