Cutter Gauthier Scores Twice as Ducks Down Hurricanes 3-2 in OT

The Anaheim Ducks ended their three-game losing streak with a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes, thanks to Cutter Gauthier's two goals.

The National Hockey League (NHL) wrapped up the week with an exciting slate of five games on Sunday, featuring all 10 teams scoring at least once. Here's a recap of the action-packed matches.

The Detroit Red Wings continued their winning streak with a convincing 6-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken. The home team came out strong, with Marco Kasper scoring just three minutes and 22 seconds into the game. J.T. Comphrey doubled the lead 71 seconds later, and Alex DeBrincat added a third goal a few minutes later, putting the Red Wings up 3-0.

The Kraken's struggles led to a goaltender change, with Philipp Grubauer being replaced. However, this didn't seem to make a significant difference, as the Red Wings scored their fourth goal less than two minutes later, courtesy of Patrick Kane. This impressive start put the hosts in a commanding position.

Detroit's dominance continued in the second period, with two more power-play goals. Erik Gustafsson scored 4:17 into the period, followed by Dylan Larkin's goal with 4:39 left. At this point, the game was essentially over, with the Red Wings holding a comfortable lead.

Although Seattle managed to score two consolation goals, one from Oliver Bjorkstrand just before the intermission and another from Matthew Beniers in the third period, they couldn't match Detroit's impressive opening frame. The Red Wings' sixth consecutive win propelled them to 10th spot in the Eastern Conference, just two points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final playoff spot.

The loss marked the Kraken's fifth defeat in their last six games, leaving them nine points out of the postseason places in the Western Conference.

The Anaheim Ducks snapped their three-game losing streak on Sunday, defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in overtime. The winning goal was scored by Cutter Gauthier, who netted his second goal of the night nearly two minutes into overtime.

The Ducks took an early lead in the game, with Jansen Harkins scoring before the 10-minute mark. However, the goals dried up for the rest of the first and second periods, with the Hurricanes struggling to find their rhythm due to poor finishing and discipline issues. As a result, the Ducks maintained their slim lead heading into the final period.

The game seemed to be slipping away from the Hurricanes in the third period, as Gauthier scored his first goal of the night just one minute and 18 seconds in. However, this goal appeared to spark the Hurricanes into life, and they soon found themselves back in the contest. Andrei Svechnikov scored for the Hurricanes, and with just seconds remaining in the game, Seth Jarvis scored a dramatic equalizer to send the game into overtime.

In the end, it was Gauthier who emerged as the hero for the Ducks, scoring the winning goal in overtime to secure a 3-2 victory for Anaheim. The win moves the Ducks up to 12th place in the Western Conference, while the Hurricanes will look to bounce back from this tough loss.
