The Dallas Cowboys have appointed Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach, marking his first stint in the top job in the National Football League (NFL). Schottenheimer's appointment comes after the Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy following a disappointing 2024 season, which saw the team finish with a 7-10 record despite making the playoffs the previous year.
Schottenheimer brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent nearly 30 years in the NFL. Since joining the Cowboys in 2022, he has held various positions, including coaching analyst and offensive coordinator. Prior to his time in Dallas, Schottenheimer worked with eight different NFL teams in various capacities, demonstrating his versatility and adaptability as a coach.

Schottenheimer's coaching journey began after his college days, where he served as the backup quarterback for the Florida Gators during their 1996 championship-winning season. He started his coaching career as an assistant coach with the St. Louis Rams (now Los Angeles Rams) before moving to the Kansas City Chiefs in a similar role. Schottenheimer also spent time in the college game before returning to the NFL as a quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins (now Commanders) and San Diego Chargers (currently Los Angeles Chargers).

With his extensive experience and familiarity with the Cowboys organization, Schottenheimer is well-positioned to lead the team back to success. As a Denver, Colorado native, he brings a deep understanding of the NFL and a passion for coaching that will be essential in driving the Cowboys forward.
Brian Schottenheimer's most recent stint as an offensive coordinator was with the Dallas Cowboys. During the 2023 season, his offense excelled, ranking fifth overall and first in scoring. The Cowboys' impressive performance resulted in a 12-5 record, securing second place in the NFC.
However, the 2024 season saw a significant decline in the Cowboys' offense. Under Schottenheimer's guidance, the team ranked 21st in scoring and 16th overall, a substantial drop from their previous year's performance.
Schottenheimer's extensive coaching experience includes notable roles as an offensive coordinator with several teams. His previous positions include stints with the New York Jets (2006-2011), Rams (2012-2014), and Seattle Seahawks (2018-2020).
