Bentancur Sidelined: Tottenham Midfielder to Miss Two Weeks with Concussion

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur will miss two weeks of action after suffering a concussion in the League Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is set to miss two weeks of action after suffering a concussion during the League Cup semi-final first leg against Liverpool. The 27-year-old Uruguayan midfielder fell awkwardly while attempting a header, prompting concern from his teammates as he lay motionless on the pitch.

Bentancur was subsequently taken off the field on a stretcher after receiving lengthy treatment and underwent further observations in the hospital. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou provided an update on Bentancur's condition on Friday. “It looks like a concussion but nothing more than that. He was in the hospital, obviously, and they did all of the tests in terms of checking, making sure everything is okay,” Postecoglou told reporters.

Postecoglou confirmed that Bentancur is now back home and recovering well. “And all good. He is back home. He is fine. He is feeling good. We'll obviously follow the protocols now. I think it is a couple of weeks where you have to make sure everything is okay,” Postecoglou explained, outlining the expected recovery timeline for the midfielder.

The news of Bentancur's two-week absence will likely come as a relief to the midfielder, who has already endured a lengthy suspension this season. In a previous incident, Bentancur served a seven-match ban for comments he made about teammate Son Heung-Min during a televised interview. With the concussion diagnosis, Bentancur will now miss the FA Cup trip to Tamworth, as well as Premier League matches against Arsenal and Everton. However, he may be able to return to action in time for the Europa League fixture against Hoffenheim on January 23rd.
