Badosa Eyes Upset Against Gauff in Australian Open Quarter-Finals

Paula Badosa is seeking revenge against Coco Gauff in their Australian Open quarter-final match, after losing to the American in their previous two encounters.

Should Aryna Sabalenka emerge victorious in her evening clash, she may face Coco Gauff in a repeat of their 2024 semi-final. However, Gauff must first overcome Spain's 11th seed Paula Badosa in their quarter-final match. The two players met twice last year, with Gauff winning both encounters in three sets. Badosa is eager to settle the score, particularly after being a set and a break up in their last meeting in Beijing before losing. “I love Coco. I respect her a lot,” Badosa said of the 20-year-old American. “Last one was really tough for me because I was winning in that moment, then the momentum changed. I hope I can have my revenge here.”

World number two Alexander Zverev has advanced to the quarter-finals of the men's singles, where he will face American 12th seed Tommy Paul. Zverev acknowledged Paul's smart playing style, saying, “I think he is somebody that is quite a smart player. I think he is somebody that can change tactics quite a lot when he plays.” The Australian Open has been Paul's most successful Grand Slam tournament, with a 15-5 win-loss record in his six appearances. He reached the semi-finals in 2023, becoming the first American man to do so since Andy Roddick in 2009, before losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.
