Atalanta and Juventus Remain Winless in Four Matches After 1-1 Draw
Atalanta and Juventus played out a 1-1 draw at Gewiss Stadium, extending their respective winless streaks to four matches in all competitions.
Atalanta and Juventus played to a 1-1 draw at Gewiss Stadium, extending their respective slumps to four matches without a win in all competitions. Both teams had previously suffered losses in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-finals, followed by draws in their last league outings. This encounter began with a lackluster tone, as neither side managed a shot on target until the 25th minute, when Michele Di Gregorio saved Ademola Lookman's swerving effort.
The match saw Atalanta dominate possession, but Juventus created scoring opportunities, particularly towards the end of the first half. Kenan Yildiz's shot was followed by Nicolas Gonzalez's curling strike, which narrowly missed the target. Yildiz then fired a volley from a corner wide, as Juventus finished the first half strongly. Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi was called upon to make a routine save from Weston McKennie's strike, but the teams remained deadlocked at halftime.
The second half began with Atalanta on the front foot, as they unleashed four efforts in as many minutes. Kenan Yildiz, Nicolas Gonzalez, and Federico Gatti all tried their luck, before Pierre Kalulu's header from a corner struck the inside of the post. In an astonishing turn of events, the ball was somehow cleared by Carnesecchi before it fully crossed the line. Undeterred, Kalulu responded by latching onto McKennie's through ball and slotting it past the goalkeeper to give Juventus the lead nine minutes into the second half.
Atalanta responded resiliently to Juventus' second-half goal, and they nearly drew level on the hour mark. Ademola Lookman's shot was blocked on the line by Teun Koopmeiners, and the game intensified with Weston McKennie and Ederson trading efforts in a frantic period. Juventus seemed to have weathered the storm, but Atalanta's persistence eventually paid off.
The equaliser arrived with 12 minutes remaining, as Raoul Bellanova headed a deep cross back across goal, picking out fellow substitute Mateo Retegui. Retegui stooped low to head the ball past Michele Di Gregorio, restoring parity to the match. Atalanta had a late opportunity to complete the turnaround when Nicolo Zaniolo embarked on a driving run, but Di Gregorio made a smart stop to deny him.
The draw marked the end of Atalanta's 16-game streak of scoring at least twice in domestic home matches. Meanwhile, Juventus extended their unbeaten run against Atalanta to seven encounters. However, the Old Lady was fortunate to escape with a draw, as Kenan Yildiz spurned an injury-time chance. The result also marked Juventus' 13th league draw of the campaign.
