Amorim Refuses to Change Tactics Despite Manchester United's Struggles
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim described his team as the 'worst in history' after a 3-1 loss to Brighton, their 10th defeat of the season, leaving them 13th in the Premier League.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim made a startling admission, describing his team as the “worst team in the history of Manchester United” following their dismal 3-1 home defeat to Brighton on Sunday. This loss marked United's 10th defeat of the season, leaving the club in peril of recording their lowest-ever Premier League finish.
Despite the alarming slump, Amorim remains resolute in his tactical approach, refusing to deviate from his plan. Since taking the reins in November, Amorim's United have garnered a meager 11 points from a possible 33, underscoring the enormity of the challenges facing the team. This season's struggles have drawn unfavorable comparisons to the 1989-90 campaign, when United also suffered 10 losses in their first 22 league games.
The statistics are alarming for Manchester United fans, with the team languishing in 13th place, precariously close to the relegation zone as they are to the top eight. With 26 points from 22 games, United's struggles are a far cry from their usual standards. Last season's eighth-place finish was their worst in the Premier League era, and the current campaign is threatening to eclipse that underwhelming performance.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged the gravity of the situation, empathizing with the frustrations of the fans. “Imagine what this is (like) for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is (like) for me,” Amorim told Sky Sports. He recognized the pressure on his own position, given that his tenure has been marked by more losses than his predecessor Erik ten Hag. “We are getting a new coach that is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of that.”
Despite the mounting criticism, Amorim remains resolute in his approach, refusing to alter his tactics. “(But) I am not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed, but we need to survive this moment. Because I'm not naive and I know that we need to survive now.” Amorim's candid assessment of the team's situation was stark, as he stated, “We are being the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United. I know that you want headlines, but I'm saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go, your headlines.”

Amorim warned that the team's struggles are unlikely to abate in the near future, with challenging fixtures on the horizon. Manchester United will host Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday before facing Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday. “I'm not going to change how I see the game, I'm clear on that,” Amorim asserted. “The players are going to suffer, the fans are going to suffer, I'm sorry. I have one way of doing things but we need to survive this moment. It's very clear for everybody what we are going to do (tactically).”
