Alejandro Balde's Honest Admission: I Don't Know Atalanta's Manage

Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde admitted he had never heard of Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini during a press conference ahead of their Champions League match.



Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde unintentionally gave Atalanta, their upcoming Champions League opponents, some extra motivation when he admitted to being unfamiliar with their manager's name during a press conference. Despite praising Atalanta's impressive performance in Serie A and their Europa League win last season, Balde was stumped when asked about Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini's style of play.


Balde began by expressing his admiration for Atalanta, saying, “Atalanta are a great team, I think they're having a great season in Serie A.” However, when asked about Gasperini's tactics, Balde appeared confused, responding, “And the other one you said, who was it? The player? I haven't heard who he was.” The reporter repeated the question, but Balde remained unaware of Gasperini's identity.



The reporter's follow-up question still didn't enlighten Balde, who laughed and admitted, “Who is that? I don't know.” He turned to a Barcelona staff member beside him, who explained that Gasperini was the Atalanta manager. Balde's response was, “Oh, okay, the truth is I had no idea. Well, I don't know, I guess good, I don't know, good, good.” This exchange may have given Atalanta some extra motivation ahead of their match against Barcelona.


Atalanta has had an impressive run in the Champions League, losing only once in seven games, and is currently seventh in the standings with 14 points. They have secured at least a playoff spot, while Barcelona is guaranteed a place in the last 16, regardless of the outcome against Atalanta.
