Ajax Manager Farioli Tips Gerald Alders to Fill Devyne Rensch's Void

Ajax manager Francesco Farioli has backed 19-year-old Gerald Alders to fill the void left by Devyne Rensch's departure, praising the young player's energy and skill.

Ajax manager Francesco Farioli has confirmed that right-back Devyne Rensch will be leaving the club to join Serie A side AS Roma in the coming days. Rensch, a product of Ajax's academy, traveled to Rome on Wednesday to undergo a medical examination ahead of his transfer. This move was hinted at by Farioli's decision to leave Rensch out of the starting lineup in Sunday's game against sc Heerenveen.

Farioli also revealed that Rensch's name was omitted from the 23-man squad for Thursday's Europa League game against RFS. Speaking at a press conference in Riga, Farioli said, “We have already said goodbye to Devyne (Rensch).” He praised Rensch's abilities, saying, “Personally, it was quite emotional. He's a great player and a good guy.” Although Rensch is still technically an Ajax player, Farioli acknowledged that he is in Rome to finalize the transfer, stating, “He is still an Ajax player, but he is in Rome to finalize the deal.”

With Devyne Rensch's departure imminent, Ajax manager Francesco Farioli appears to be grooming 19-year-old Gerald Alders as a potential replacement. Alders, a product of Ajax's youth academy, has been included in the squad, and Farioli seems confident in his abilities. “In this moment, there's a clear need. But while we are waiting, Gerald (Alders) will be with us,” Farioli said.

Farioli praised Alders' qualities, saying, “He's an important player from Jong Ajax. He's really motivated and really energetic, so we fully trust him.” The manager highlighted Alders' energetic and clever approach to the game, noting, “He's very energetic, really clever, a fast learner. I think this is already very good to start with.”

Alders' technical skills were also commended by Farioli, who said, “He's very skillful on the ball and of course with being so young and with the experience with the senior team, he will have to learn and experience it a little bit.” As Alders continues to develop, he will likely play a key role in filling the void left by Rensch's departure.

In addition to Devyne Rensch's impending departure, Ajax manager Francesco Farioli has also been the subject of speculation regarding a potential move to AS Roma. The Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Roma are interested in appointing Farioli as their new manager, following the departure of interim boss Claudio Ranieri.

Farioli, however, refused to entertain questions about a possible move to Roma, stating, “For me, there is nothing.” He expressed his familiarity with the rumor mill, saying, “I think you're starting to know me quite well about the fact what gossip and rumours are. Talks are talks.” Farioli emphasized his commitment to Ajax, highlighting his dedication to the club and downplaying the significance of speculation.

Farioli reiterated his focus on Ajax, saying, “I have already proved myself quite well with my dedication to the club and now are in a moment in the market where it is quite easy to make an association and a discussion.” He dismissed the rumors, stating, “Let everything outside. The reality is that there's nothing bigger than Ajax.” This response suggests that Farioli is committed to his current role and is not distracted by speculation about his future.
