LaLiga Update: Real Madrid Trail Barcelona

Kylian Mbappé scores his 200th league goal, leading Real Madrid to victory over Girona and closing the gap with leaders Barcelona.

Jude Bellingham continued his impressive goal-scoring streak, netting for the fifth consecutive La Liga game as Real Madrid secured a win over Girona. Notably, the England midfielder had not scored a single goal this season before embarking on this remarkable run.

Bellingham's goal-scoring form has etched his name into Real Madrid's history books. He became the first Real player to score in five successive league matches since Karim Benzema achieved the feat in March and April 2021. Bellingham's goal came late in the first half, as he fired a bouncing ball into the net from 16 yards out.

The English midfielder's influence extended beyond his goal, as he played a crucial role in Real Madrid's second goal. Bellingham delivered a precise through ball, which Arda Guler expertly slotted past the Girona goalkeeper. However, Bellingham's afternoon was cut short due to injury. After taking a knock, he was replaced by Dani Ceballos just after the hour mark.

Kylian Mbappé made history by scoring his ninth La Liga goal, courtesy of a precise pass from Luka Modric. This achievement marked a significant milestone for the French forward, as it brought his total league goals to 200. Mbappé's impressive tally comprises 16 goals for Monaco and 175 for Paris St-Germain.

Mbappé's goal has also impacted the La Liga standings, with Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid now trailing leaders Barcelona by just two points. Barcelona was held to a 2-2 draw by Real Betis, and with Real Madrid having a game in hand, the title race is heating up.
