EPL: Liverpool Thrash Tottenham 6-2 to Extend Premier League Lead
Liverpool moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League with a dominant 6-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur, with Mohamed Salah scoring twice.
Liverpool strengthened their grip on the top spot in the Premier League, establishing a four-point lead after delivering a devastating defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at their home ground. Under Arne Slot's guidance, Liverpool's pace and intensity proved overwhelming, as they expertly exploited the weaknesses in an injury-depleted Spurs team.
Liverpool created several scoring opportunities before Luis Diaz broke the deadlock, heading in a precise cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the 23rd minute. The visitors doubled their advantage just 13 minutes later, as Alexis Mac Allister scored with another header. However, James Maddison reignited Spurs' hopes of a comeback, curling in his eighth goal of the season four minutes before halftime.
Mohamed Salah swiftly extinguished Spurs' renewed optimism, setting up Dominik Szoboszlai for a straightforward finish in first-half stoppage time. Tottenham's lengthy injury list and exhausting schedule, which included a Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United on Thursday, had clearly taken its toll. As a result, Spurs appeared fatigued and vulnerable to further exploitation by Liverpool's well-oiled machine.
Mohamed Salah equaled Billy Liddell's long-standing record of 228 Liverpool goals when he scored from close range in the 54th minute, increasing Liverpool's lead. He then surpassed Liddell's record, moving into fourth place on the club's all-time scorers list, when he netted his second goal of the game.
The match saw several players find the back of the net, including Dejan Kulusevski, who scored for the fifth consecutive game with 18 minutes remaining. Dominic Solanke's goal threatened to inflate the scoreline, but Luis Diaz's second goal of the game, and Liverpool's sixth, sealed the win.
Muhammed Salah keeps scoring non stop. I wonder what his dreams are?
