Atalanta comes from behind to beat Udinese 2-1, temporarily taking Serie A's top spot with sixth straight win amid growing injury concerns.
Atalanta staged a remarkable comeback, overcoming Hassane Kamara's opening goal to defeat Udinese 2-1 and temporarily claim the Serie A summit with their sixth consecutive victory.
However, the win was overshadowed by growing injury concerns.
Fresh from a 3-0 loss to Napoli and a 2-0 Champions League win over Stuttgart, Atalanta faced Udinese without key players Charles De Ketelaere, Sead Kolasinac, Giorgio Scalvini, and Gianluca Scamacca.
Lazar Samardzic seized the opportunity to start against his former club.
Meanwhile, Udinese welcomed back Isaak Toure from suspension but struggled without injured trio Alexis Sanchez, Thomas Kristensen, and Gerard Deulofeu.
The match began at a frenetic pace, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Maduka Okoye denied Mario Pasalic's cross-shot, and Udinese swiftly countered, forcing Marco Carnesecchi into a double save on Sandi Lovric and Keinan Davis.
Atalanta thought they had taken the lead on 13 minutes, but Mateo Retegui's goal was disallowed due to Ademola Lookman's offside position.
Martin Payero nearly broke the deadlock with a powerful curler that struck the crossbar.
Carnesecchi then made an impressive save to thwart Florian Thauvin's scuffed effort.
Thauvin's attempt was compromised by a slip, which led to a collision with Berat Djimsiti, exacerbating Atalanta's injury concerns.
Marten de Roon dropped back to defense, and shortly after, Keinan Davis's goal was disallowed for a push on De Roon.
A clearance nearly resulted in a bizarre own goal due to a miscommunication between Jaka Bijol and Hassane Kamara.
On the stroke of halftime, Atalanta had a double chance from Lazar Samardzic's corner. Okoye parried Odilon Kossounou's header, and Bijol blocked Retegui's tap-in.
Hassane Kamara broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, capitalizing on Davide Zappacosta's injury-hindered defense to unleash a powerful shot into the top corner from outside the box.
After the restart, Florian Thauvin had a double chance, but Marco Carnesecchi parried his initial effort, and Thauvin subsequently lobbed the ball over the empty net.
Atalanta equalized with a well-crafted move initiated by Lazar Samardzic. Raoul Bellanova's cross from the right found Mario Pasalic, who expertly swept the ball into the roof of the net.
Within five minutes, Atalanta took the lead. Bellanova's another cross from the right was inadvertently deflected into the net by Isaak Toure's misguided block.
Marco Brescianini squandered a promising opportunity, scuffing his shot off target.
Injury woes continued for Atalanta as Nicolò Zaniolo joined Berat Djimsiti and Davide Zappacosta on the sidelines, exiting with a muscular issue.
