Rúben Amorim Reflects on Manchester United Debut and Future Ambitions
Rúben Amorim Praises Amad Diallo's Defensive Improvement
“If we try to just win games and don't risk nothing in this moment, I guarantee next year at the same stage...”
Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim discusses his debut game, the need for risk-taking, and Amad Diallo's defensive improvement.
Manchester United's new manager Rúben Amorim has spoken candidly about his debut game in charge, a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town. Amorim, who joined Manchester United this month after leaving Sporting CP, emphasized the need for his team to take risks and improve.
“If we try to just win games and don't risk nothing in this moment, I guarantee next year at the same stage we will have the same problems,” Amorim warned. “We have to address the new idea and try to be better.”
Amorim also expressed his desire to focus on his work with the players, rather than engaging with the media. “This week I spoke more to the media than I did in four years at Sporting. I just want to work with my players. Nothing more,” he said.
The Portuguese manager acknowledged that his players were overthinking during the game, which affected their performance. “My players were thinking too much in the game. You could feel it,” Amorim observed.
One player who impressed Amorim was Amad Diallo, who showed significant improvement defensively in just three days. “He was very good. In three days, he improved so much defensively, Amorim praised. “He was facing the left-back, he just had to follow him. He was so focused. He did a very good job.”
