RB Leipzig held to frustrating goalless draw by Borussia Mönchengladbach, failing to close gap with leaders Bayern Munich in Bundesliga.
RB Leipzig's title aspirations suffered another setback as they were held to a goalless draw by Borussia Mönchengladbach, dropping crucial points for the second consecutive week.
Following a stunning 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund last week, RB Leipzig sought redemption against Gladbach on Saturday. However, Marco Rose's side failed to regain momentum, settling for a disappointing 0-0 stalemate.
The draw leaves Leipzig five points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich, complicating their pursuit of the Bundesliga crown. The stalemate marks another missed opportunity for Leipzig to close the gap.
The visiting team dominated the first half, creating several scoring opportunities that forced Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi into impressive saves.
In the 22nd minute, Tim Klindienst nearly broke the deadlock, but his close-range effort was thwarted by Gulacsi's quick reflexes. Later, Franck Honorat's powerful long-range shot rattled the Leipzig crossbar, while Christoph Baumgartner's header was expertly tipped over by Moritz Nicolas in Leipzig's sole first-half chance.
The momentum shifted after halftime as Leipzig emerged with renewed intensity, pushing aggressively for the opening goal.
Just past the hour mark, Lois Opendja expertly flicked the ball to Baumgartner, whose low-driven shot was denied by Moritz Nicolas's exceptional save.
As the second half progressed, Leipzig coach Marco Rose introduced a series of substitutions in pursuit of the decisive goal. However, despite their efforts, the Roten Bullen were ultimately held to a draw.
