NAFDAC Warns Nigerians Against Recalled Nivea Roll-On Deodorant
NAFDAC warns Nigerians against recalled Nivea Roll-on deodorant due to health risks. The affected product, Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on, contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a prohibited chemical causing reproductive harm, skin irritation, and burns.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians against using a recalled batch of Nivea Black and White Invisible Roll-on deodorant. This decision follows a similar warning from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products in Brussels.
The affected product, manufactured in Germany with Bar Code Number 42299882, has a batch number of 93529610. NAFDAC explained that the recalled product contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a prohibited chemical in cosmetic products. This chemical can cause harm to the reproductive system, impair the health of an unborn child, and lead to skin irritation and burns in users.
NAFDAC advises importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to be cautious and vigilant regarding the affected product. They should prevent its importation, distribution, sale, and use. Additionally, members of the public in possession of the affected batch should cease sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
To report adverse events experienced with the use of regulated products, individuals can contact NAFDAC via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, E-reporting platforms available at (link unavailable), or through the Med-safety application available for download on Android and iOS.
