Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to Present 2025 Budget Amid Tribute to Late Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja

Governor Ademola Adeleke is set to present the 2025 budget of Osun State to the House of Assembly on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. This announcement was made by the Speaker of the House, Adewale Egbedun, during Tuesday's plenary session.

According to Egbedun, Governor Adeleke informed the assembly of the budget presentation through a letter dated November 11, titled “Laying of Year 2025 Draft Budget of Osun State before the House.” This presentation is a significant step in shaping Osun State's fiscal future, and lawmakers will gather at the House of Assembly Complex in Osogbo to review the proposed budget.

In preparation for the budget presentation, Governor Adeleke chaired the Treasury Board meeting, emphasizing the importance of sustaining budget performance for the state's overall interest. He urged ministries and agencies to maintain budget performance, ensuring effective allocation of resources.

“I am pleased to inform the distinguished members of the Osun State House of Assembly through the Honourable Speaker of our intention to lay the 2025 draft budget of the state before the house on Wednesday, November 13, having concluded its preparation and approved by the state executive council,” the letter read.

“This is to confirm with the extant rules and regulations which stipulates that such draft budget should be presented to the House for approval at the end of the year preceding the commencement of the budget implementation.”

The Osun State House of Assembly honored the late Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja, with a minute of silence after Adekunle Oladimeji, the lawmaker representing Irepodun/Orolu State Constituency, read a heartfelt tribute. Lagbaja hailed from Irepodun/Orolu State, making the tribute even more poignant.

Following the tribute, the House deliberated on the Osun State Property Protection Bill 2024, which successfully passed its first reading. Majority Leader Babajide Kofoworola then presented the policy thrust of the “Osun State Drug and Medical Supply Management Agency Establishment Bill 2024.”

After lawmakers shared their thoughts and highlighted the benefits of establishing the agency, the Drug and Medical Supply Management Agency Establishment Bill advanced to its second reading. The House later transitioned into a “committee of the whole” to further discuss and debate the Osun State Consumer Protection Agency Establishment Bill 2024.

It's worth noting that General Lagbaja's passing has been met with tributes and recognition from various quarters, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) canceling engagements and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu postponing a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in his honor.
