EPL: Tottenham Stun Manchester City with 4-0 Thrashing

Guardiola's City Suffer Historic 4-0 Loss to Tottenham

Tottenham's impressive 4-0 win over Manchester City marked a historic night for Spurs, with Maddison, Porro, and Johnson on the scoresheet.

James Maddison scored a brace as Tottenham stunned Manchester City with a 4-0 thrashing at Etihad Stadium. The defeat marked City's fifth consecutive loss, their worst run since 2006.

Tottenham's victory ended City's 52-match unbeaten record at home, which dated back to 2022. Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson added to Maddison's goals, sealing an incredible win for Spurs.

The loss was City's worst home defeat since a 5-1 thrashing by Arsenal in 2003. Pep Guardiola's side had never previously lost three consecutive Premier League games under his management.

Guardiola, who signed a two-year contract extension just 48 hours earlier, suffered his heaviest home defeat as a manager. Tottenham fans taunted him with chants of “you'll be sacked in the morning” as they celebrated Porro's goal.

Tottenham's win was all the more impressive given their injury woes. Without their first-choice central defenders, Spurs made light of their problems, while City struggled to cope without injured midfielder Rodri.

The defeat highlighted Man City's reliance on Rodri, who was honored before the match after winning the Ballon d'Or. City remain second, but Liverpool can stretch their lead to eight points with a win at Southampton on Sunday.

Tottenham's victory propelled them to sixth place, four points behind City. The win marked a remarkable turnaround for Spurs, who had lost their previous game 2-1 to Ipswich.

Pep Guardiola is navigating uncharted territory, having never experienced a losing streak of this magnitude. His team has been humbled by significant margins, including a 4-0 loss to Tottenham and a Champions League thrashing by Sporting.

Guardiola's situation is far from ideal, but he remains committed to finding solutions. The absence of Rodri has significantly impacted City's performance, and the team's vulnerability was evident without the midfielder's presence.

Mateo Kovacic's injury further exacerbated the issue, leaving City's back four exposed. Ilkay Gundogan's struggles to keep up with Tottenham's counter-attacks were particularly notable, as he chased back in vain.

City's inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities proved costly. Erling Haaland squandered a prime chance, attempting to control a cross instead of taking a first-time shot. Later, Savinho failed to find Haaland with a straightforward pass.

Haaland had other opportunities, including a swept effort turned away by Tottenham keeper Guglielmo Vicario. Kevin de Bruyne's second-half effort was also blocked, and Radu Dragusin's late tackle denied Haaland a tap-in.

As the Etihad Stadium emptied, Tottenham's tenacity and determination were evident. The visitors' ability to take their chances and capitalize on City's vulnerabilities ultimately secured their convincing 4-0 victory.

The pre-match warm-up saw Pep Guardiola and Ange Postecoglou share a warm embrace, but it was Postecoglou who was beaming with pride at the final whistle.

Tottenham's 4-0 thrashing of Manchester City will go down in Spurs folklore. The win was a remarkable turnaround from their recent home defeat to Ipswich.

City full-back Josko Gvardiol was targeted by Tottenham, and Dejan Kulusevski took advantage of his weakness. Kulusevski shrugged off Gvardiol before delivering a superb cross for James Maddison to score.

Gvardiol's struggles continued as he played a blind pass straight to Maddison, who scored his second goal with a deft finish.

The game was effectively sealed seven minutes after the restart when Pedro Porro drove home an unstoppable shot, courtesy of Dominic Solanke's superb pass.

Tottenham played with tenacity to keep City at bay, and their supporters' anxiety turned to jubilation as the final whistle approached.

Brennan Johnson completed the rout with a tap-in, capping off an historic night for Tottenham.
