Ritual Turns Fatal: Native Doctor, Father Arrested: 26-Year-Old Dies in Botched Fortification Ritual for Overseas Travel
Tragedy struck in Enugu State when 26-year-old Chikwado Eze died during a botched fortification ritual. Chikwado had just secured a visa to travel abroad and returned to his village to share the exciting news with his father, Uwakwe Eze. However, his father insisted on a fortification ritual to ensure his success overseas, taking him to a native doctor named Onuwa.
The ritual took a devastating turn when Chikwado was buried alive in a coffin as part of the fortification process. Unfortunately, he died within an hour. The native doctor, Enuwa Odugu, 48, and Chikwado's father, Uwakwe Eze, 67, have been arrested for conspiracy and murder.
According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Police Public Relations Officer, the native doctor confessed to the crime and attributed Chikwado's death to his non-adherence to certain ritualistic rules. The case is under investigation, and the suspects will face trial once investigations are concluded.
This incident highlights the dangers of harmful traditional practices and the importance of seeking justice for victims. The Enugu State Police Command is taking proactive steps to address such crimes, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
“The incident is alleged to have occurred when Uwakwe Eze took his son to the native doctor's shrine for a ritual intended to fortify him with charms.
“However, during the ritual, the deceased was buried in a coffin but he unfortunately died in the process.
“He was rushed to the hospital and confirmed dead by the attending doctor, and his body deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.”
“The case is under investigation, and the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded,” Ndukwe said.
