RCCG Takes Action: Pastors Suspended Over Homosexuality Claims, Church Reaffirms Biblical Values

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has taken swift action against two of its ministers, Ayorinde Bello and Oke Mayowa, suspending them pending a thorough investigation into allegations of homosexuality. This decision was made public through an internal memo dated October 28, 2024, signed by Pastor Sunday Akande, the RCCG National Overseer.

According to the memo, Pastor Akande informed the church's Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration about the temporary removal of the ministers from their duties during the investigation. Pastor Akande reaffirmed the RCCG's commitment to upholding biblical principles throughout this process, ensuring that the church maintains its values and integrity.

The suspension is a clear indication that the RCCG takes allegations of misconduct seriously and is dedicated to addressing them promptly and transparently. By doing so, the church demonstrates its adherence to biblical standards and its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all members.

Allegations of homosexuality have been leveled against Ayorinde Bello, also known as AY Bello, and other prominent youth pastors, including Leke Adeboye, son of the General Overseer, within the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). According to a blog report, parents have accused these leaders of negatively influencing male teenagers under their care, with some even alleging that Bello has enticed teenage boys into homosexuality.

A 20-year-old male, who chose to remain anonymous, shared his concerns, stating that while AY Bello has positively impacted many young individuals, he has also led some astray into homosexuality. This testimony highlights the complexity of the situation, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation.

In response to these allegations, Pastor Sunday Akande, the RCCG National Overseer, has suspended Ayorinde Bello and Oke Mayowa, pending a comprehensive investigation. This decision reflects the RCCG's commitment to upholding biblical principles and maintaining the integrity of its leadership.

Investigation Details

The investigation will be conducted by the General Overseer's Special Assistant.
Pastor Akande has emphasized the importance of confidentiality and respect for all parties involved.
The inquiry is expected to be completed within two weeks.

By taking swift action, the RCCG demonstrates its dedication to addressing serious allegations and ensuring the well-being of its members, particularly the youth.

During the ongoing investigation into allegations of homosexuality against Ayorinde Bello and Oke Mayowa, Pastor Sunday Akande, the RCCG National Overseer, has directed that all implicated individuals, including Bello and Mayowa, temporarily refrain from participating in church activities. This precautionary suspension will remain in effect until the investigation is concluded.

“This is a matter of integrity and adherence to our values,” Pastor Akande emphasized, underscoring the RCCG's commitment to upholding its biblical principles. By taking swift action, the church demonstrates its dedication to addressing serious allegations and ensuring the integrity of its leadership.

The RCCG has previously faced challenges related to its adherence to doctrinal teachings, making this incident a critical test of the church's resolve to maintain its values. Pastor Akande's decisive action aims to reaffirm the RCCG's unwavering commitment to its biblical foundations.
