Plateau State Under Siege: 2 Dead, 1 Missing in Latest Attacks

Terror Strikes Plateau Again

“It is quite unfortunate that these innocent herders who were struggling to earn a livelihood would just be killed.”

Nigeria's Plateau State struggles to contain protracted violence between herders and villagers, amid reports of fatalities and destroyed livelihoods.

Tragic attacks on villages in Plateau State's Riyom and Bokkos Local Government Areas have resulted in the deaths of two herders, with a third still missing. According to Babayo Yusuf, Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Plateau State.

The victims were identified as Bashiru Iliyasu and Yahuza Idris. Bashiru was killed in Jol village, Riyom LGA, while Yahuza was fatally attacked along Maikatako road in Bokkos on Thursday. The incident also claimed the lives of several cattle, which were shot dead.

“It is quite unfortunate that these innocent herders who were struggling to earn a livelihood would just be killed,” Yusuf said.

“What have they done to deserve this atrocity? This kind of atrocity should not continue because it would not help whoever is behind it.

“We are calling on all stakeholders especially the security agencies to apprehend those responsible for the attacks and prevent further attacks on our members. We are demanding the police to also rescue the missing herder.”

Plateau State, once a haven of peace, has been plagued by persistent violence, with a cycle of herder attacks and village reprisals ongoing for years.
