The Confederation of African Football (CAF) made a decisive ruling on Saturday, awarding three points and three goals to Nigeria's Super Eagles in their disrupted 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match against Libya.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria's Super Eagles three points and three goals against Libya, following a disputed AFCON 2025 qualifier. This decision comes after Libya's Football Federation was found guilty of violating several CAF regulations, including Article 31 of the AFCON Regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
As a result of this verdict, the Super Eagles reinforced their leadership position in the group. With an impressive tally of 10 points from just four matches, they now hold a significant four-point advantage over their closest competitors, Benin Republic.
Libya remains at the bottom of the group with only one point.
To secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, Nigeria's Super Eagles require just a draw against Benin in their upcoming match in Abidjan.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) imposed a $50,000 fine on the Libya Football Federation.
The Libya Football Federation has 60 days from the notification date to pay the fine.
CAF Ruling Highlights:
Match Forfeit: Libya vs. Nigeria match awarded to Nigeria with a 3-0 scoreline
Fine: Libyan Football Federation fined $50,000
New Group Standings: Nigeria leads with 10 points from four matches
This verdict not only brings justice to the Super Eagles but also serves as a strong warning to all football associations to uphold the highest standards of fair play and sportsmanship.
