Super Eagles Soar: Nigeria Defeat Libya 1-0 in AFCON Qaulifier
Nigeria's Super Eagles soared to victory, defeating Libya 1-0 at Uyo's Godswill Akpabio Stadium, courtesy of Dele Bashiru's late strike, maintaining their Group D lead with 7 points.
Nigeria's Super Eagles extended their unbeaten start to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Libya at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
The hosts, runners-up in the last AFCON edition, dominated the encounter but struggled to convert their chances until substitute Dele Bashiru broke the deadlock in the 86th minute. Moses Simon's assist set up Bashiru's decisive strike, securing Nigeria's third win in four matches.
Despite missing star striker Victor Osimhen due to injury, the Super Eagles showcased their resilience and determination. The victory solidifies Nigeria's position atop Group D with seven points, ahead of their rematch against Libya on Tuesday.
Libya's Mediterranean Knights, desperate to end their 12-year AFCON absence, remain bottom of the group with just one point. Coach Milutin Sredojevic's side faces an uphill battle to revive their qualifying hopes.
