Federal Government approves Kogi State's proposal to build an international airport, boosting regional connectivity.
The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has given the green light for Kogi State to build an international airport in Zariagi. This exciting development was announced by Kingsley Fanwo, the state's Commissioner for Information and Communications, who revealed that the ministry's approval came in a letter dated October 9, 2024.
Governor Usman Ododo is committed to ensuring the airport's swift and compliant construction, Fanwo emphasized. This project will not only benefit Kogi State but also serve as a regional hub for 10 neighboring states, providing easier access and economic opportunities for the entire region.
The new airport is also expected to bring relief to travelers by alleviating congestion at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and reducing traffic on the Lokoja-Abuja route. This is a significant step forward for Kogi State and its neighbors, promising improved connectivity and economic growth.
Benefits of the Airport:
Regional Hub: Serving 10 neighboring states
Reduced Congestion: Easing travel pressures at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport
Economic Growth: Boosting opportunities for the region
Improved Connectivity: Enhancing access for local and international travelers
“The Ododo Administration has considered it a top priority for Kogi State to have an International Airport and join the league of the aviation hub. The strategic location of the state is no doubt, an invaluable advantage in harnessing the aviation service market as the centre of the nation.
“The project will not only boost the economy of the State, it will also create jobs and bring the potential of the state to the global scene.
“The Governor is determined to hire the best hands in the industry to make the project a huge success. As you are aware, aviation is an industry of trust and standards.
“We thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and the Aviation Minister for the historic approval that will help to further develop Kogi State. We want to also say that the Airport will also have capacity for Cargo as that is one of our key focuses in the project,” the commissioner stated.
Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications in Kogi State, has reassured residents that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo's administration is committed to continuing the implementation of noteworthy projects, building on the accomplishments of the past eight years. This promise is especially significant as the state embarks on a major infrastructure project - the construction of an international airport in Zariagi, a community strategically chosen for its existing airstrip.
The location of the airport is no coincidence, as Zariagi's airstrip provides a solid foundation for the project. Moreover, a delegation from the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has expressed satisfaction with both the site and Kogi State's plans for the airport, which is a significant endorsement of the project's potential. This development is expected to not only boost economic growth but also improve connectivity for the region.
Under Governor Ododo's leadership, Kogi State is poised for transformative growth, with a focus on people-centered governance. The airport project is just one aspect of the administration's broader vision to enhance the state's infrastructure, promote economic development, and improve the quality of life for its citizens. With the government's commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, the people of Kogi State can look forward to a brighter future.
Highlights of the Airport Project:
Strategic Location: Zariagi's existing airstrip provides a solid foundation
Government Support: Governor Ododo's administration is committed to the project's success
