Enzo Maresca's Post-Match Reflections: Pride in Chelsea's Performance Despite Liverpool Defeat

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca shares his thoughts on the 2-1 loss to Liverpool, praising his team's bravery, control, and performance, despite the disappointing result.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed pride in his team's display despite the 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. Maresca revealed that Reece James and Romelu Lavia were always slated for limited minutes.

“The idea was to play Reece and Lavia for 45 to 60 minutes, no more than that,” Maresca explained.

On the game itself, Maresca acknowledged the disappointment but highlighted the positives. “We don't like to lose, but if we had to lose, this is how to lose. It's a shame we didn't get anything out of the game because we deserve at least a draw.”

Maresca reiterated his satisfaction with Chelsea's performance, emphasizing their control and bravery. “We don't like to lose or drop points, but I really liked the performance. We deserved something more, but the performance was good. We controlled most of the game. We had chances, we had possession.”

The Italian manager praised his team's courage and resilience. “The team was brave on and off the ball. I don't think this game defines where we are. We prepared in the best way, it worked quite well. You have to take chances, but overall I am very happy with the players.”

Maresca's comments suggest that Chelsea's progress under his guidance is on track. Despite the loss, the Blues demonstrated improvement, particularly in midfield, where Moises Caicedo impressed.
