Ebonyi State Gets a Raise: Governor Approves N75,000 New Minimum Wage

Governor Nwifuru Increases Minimum Wage to N75,000

This exciting development was announced via a statement from Monday Uzor...

Governor Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has just approved a new minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants in the state. This is fantastic news for grade level 2 civil servants who will receive the full minimum wage, while those from grade level 3 and above will get an increment of N40,000 across the board. The best part? This new wage takes effect today, October 28, 2024.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has announced a new minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants, effective immediately. According to the governor, “the least paid civil servant on grade level 2 will enjoy full minimum wage of 75,000 while from grade level 3 and above will get incremental of N40,000 across board.” This move makes Ebonyi the latest state to implement a new minimum wage, following the Federal Government's agreement with organized labor earlier this year to increase the minimum wage to N70,000.

This exciting development was announced via a statement from Monday Uzor, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, in Abakaliki on Sunday.

According to Governor Nwifuru, the implementation of this new wage will kick off today, Monday. The decision comes after careful consideration of the current economic climate in Nigeria and its impact on workers. This move is a welcome relief for civil servants in Ebonyi State.

In addition to the wage increase, Governor Nwifuru has appointed Obinna Ezenkwa and Uchenna Otuh as general managers of the Umuoghara Pulverization Plant and Ezzamgbo Pipe Production Factory, respectively. The governor emphasized that these appointments are aimed at bringing in expertise to drive the industries, urging the new appointees to leverage their skills to enhance productivity. He also called on stakeholders to support the new appointees in their efforts to contribute to the state's prosperity.

New Minimum Wage Breakdown:

  • Grade Level 2: N75,000 (full minimum wage)
  • Grade Level 3 and Above: N40,000 incremental increase across the board

New Appointments:

  • Obinna Ezenkwa: General Manager, Umuoghara Pulverization Plant
  • Uchenna Otuh: General Manager, Ezzamgbo Pipe Production Factory.

Highlights of the new minimum wage:

  • New Minimum Wage: N75,000
  • Increment for Higher Grades: N40,000 across the board for grade level 3 and above

This is a significant development for Ebonyi State civil servants, and I'm excited to see the positive impact it will have on their lives.
