Deadly Canoe Accident in Adamawa: Eyewitnesses Recount Chaos, Search Continues for Missing
A tragic canoe accident occurred in Borong, a riverine community in Adamawa State's Demsa Local Government Area, resulting in one confirmed fatality and two missing persons. The incident took place on Tuesday, October 22.
According to Umar Musa, a surviving passenger, the canoe struck a submerged wooden object, triggering panic among passengers. “In the chaos, some passengers jumped into the water, while others, including myself, remained in the canoe and were rescued,” Musa recounted.
Musa further explained that among the three passengers who jumped into the water, one was found deceased, and the other two remain missing. Another passenger, Abubakar Shuaibu, expressed concerns about the incident, revealing that many passengers wanted to jump into the water when the canoe hit the wood.
Fortunately, the driver's prior warning against jumping into the river likely prevented more casualties. “The driver had cautioned us earlier not to jump into the water if anything happened,” Shuaibu said.
As of now, there's no update on the whereabouts of the two missing individuals.
