Building collapse at University of Benin (UNIBEN) injures several students, no fatalities reported. Hospitalized students in stable condition, receiving treatment at UNIBEN health centre and University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
Three students rescued from the collapsed building in Ekosodin community are now stable, according to the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
A building collapse on Ekhator Street in Ekosodin on Saturday trapped several UNIBEN students under the rubble.
Ekosodin, a community bordering the University of Benin, is largely inhabited by UNIBEN students.
A heavy downpour in Benin, starting Friday and ending Saturday morning, caused the building to collapse.
Rescue efforts were swiftly initiated, with a team comprising security personnel, firefighters, health center staff, students, and police officers working together to extract injured students from the rubble.
Some students required hospitalization due to the severity of their injuries, and the rescue team ensured they received prompt medical attention.
“The management wishes the affected students speedy recovery and commends the rescue team for their gallantry,” the institution said.
