Bologna's long-awaited return to the Champions League ended in a thrilling 0-0 draw against Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara. This match marked the Italian side's first appearance in Europe's elite competition since the 1964-65 European Cup.


The game got off to a fiery start, with Shakhtar Donetsk awarded a penalty in the fourth minute after Bologna defender Stefan Posch fouled Eguinaldo. However, Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski came to the rescue, saving Heorhiy Sudakov's low spot-kick.
