UCL: Atletico Madrid Snatch Late Win Over RB Leipzig in Champions League Opener

Griezmann inspires Atletico's Champions League comeback...

Atletico Madrid secured a dramatic 2-1 Champions League win over RB Leipzig, thanks to Jose Maria Gimenez's 90th-minute header, after Antoine Griezmann's equalizer cancelled out Benjamin Sesko's early opener.

Atletico Madrid kicked off their Champions League campaign with a thrilling 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig, sealed by Jose Maria Gimenez's 90th-minute winner.

Benjamin Sesko headed Leipzig into an early lead, but Antoine Griezmann equalized with a stunning volleyed effort in the 28th minute.

Griezmann was denied a second goal by Peter Gulacsi's impressive save, but he turned provider in the dying minutes, delivering a pinpoint cross for Gimenez to head home.

Conor Gallagher made his Atletico Madrid debut as a 63rd-minute substitute, replacing his first appearance for the Spanish side.

Gallagher, who joined Atletico for £33m in August, follows Kieran Trippier as the second English player to feature in the Champions League for the club.

Atletico next face Benfica on October 2, while RB Leipzig host Juventus.
