Okpebholo confirmed Edo Governor-Elect by INEC, defeating PDP's Ighodalo.



The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in accordance with Section 72 of the Electoral Act 2022, has formally presented a Certificate of Return to Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, in recognition of his victory in the Edo State Governorship election held on Saturday 21st 2024. This certificate officially confirms Okpebholo's status as Governor-Elect, marking a significant milestone in the post-election process.


Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, secured 291,667 votes, winning 11 out of 18 Local Government Areas in the state. His closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 247,274 votes, winning seven LGAs. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) finished third with 22,763 votes.


Notable figures attended the ceremony, including APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, National Secretary Senator Bashiru Ajibola, and former Edo State Governor Senator Adams Oshiomhole. Okpebholo dedicated his victory to the people of Edo State, promising to fulfill the mandate given to him. He acknowledged the trust placed in him and vowed to deliver on his commitments.


The APC chairman praised the people of Edo for bringing the APC back to power, highlighting Okpebholo's experience and development plans. Former Governor Oshiomhole expressed excitement about the new leadership, emphasizing that the people now have a governor who will respect traditional institutions, focus on education, and prioritize the needs of the people.
