5 children arrested in UK over 80-year-old man's murder. Leicestershire Police launch investigation after victim dies from park assault injuries.

A group of five children, comprising a 14-year-old boy and girl, and three 12-year-olds (two girls and a boy), have been taken into custody in the UK on suspicion of murdering an 80-year-old man. The elderly victim succumbed to injuries sustained during a severe assault at a park, and later died in the hospital.

Leicestershire Police announced on Tuesday that a murder investigation had been initiated following the tragic incident. The assault occurred on Sunday evening, near the park entrance, and a group of young individuals fled the scene before emergency services arrived. The police are now appealing to the public for information, seeking anyone who was in the park or surrounding area at the time of the attack to come forward.

A Senior Investigating Officer, Emma Matts, said: “Sadly, following the death of the victim last night, this has now become a murder investigation.

“Officers are continuing to work at speed to establish the details of the attack, and we have made a number of arrests as we continue to understand what has happened.

“A scene preservation will remain in place at the park while our investigation progresses.

“Local officers are also in the area carrying out re-assurance patrols and can speak with anyone in the local community who has concerns.”

Leicestershire Police will refer the case to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous interactions with the victim.
