47 inmates escape from maximum-security prison in Liberia's Margibi County due to security breach. Search efforts underway, public urged to report information to aid recapture.

A massive prison break has occurred in Liberia's Margibi County, with 47 inmates escaping from a maximum-security facility. The incident happened over the weekend in a rural area east of Monrovia, the country's capital.

Preliminary investigations by the justice ministry indicate that a security breach at the prison enabled the inmates to escape. The ministry disclosed this information on Monday.

“The Ministry of Justice is deeply concerned about this incident and is taking all necessary measures to ensure the recapture of the escaped inmates,” it said in a statement.

To aid in the search for the escaped prisoners, the ministry has deployed additional officers. The public is urged to remain calm and report any relevant information to assist in recapturing the inmates.

The ministry appeals to the escaped inmates to surrender themselves at the nearest police station or prison authorities. This will help them avoid facing further charges.
