Transfer: Benfica President Rui Costa Rules Out João Félix Return
Benfica president Rui Costa rules out João Félix return, citing Atlético Madrid's high valuation as a major obstacle, dashing hopes of a potential transfer.
Benfica president Rui Costa has dashed hopes of a potential return for João Félix, stating that the club cannot meet Atlético Madrid's valuation of the Portuguese forward. Despite expressing a desire to bring Félix back to the Estádio da Luz, Costa conceded that it is not a feasible option for the club.
Benfica president Rui Costa: “It's not possible for Benfica to pay what Atlético Madrid want today for João Félix.
“We'd love to bring him back but it doesn't look like a possibility for us, at all.”
Félix, a product of Benfica's youth academy, has struggled to find consistency at Atlético Madrid since his move in 2019. A return to his boyhood club had been mooted as a potential solution, but Costa's comments suggest that this is no longer a possibility.
Benfica fans will be disappointed by the news, as Félix's talents would have undoubtedly strengthened the team's attacking lineup.
