Hotel collapse in Germany's Moselle region leaves 1 dead, 8 trapped, and 5 injured, with 31 nearby residents evacuated; rescue efforts underway amidst challenging conditions.



A partial hotel collapse near the River Moselle in Germany has resulted in one fatality and eight people trapped. The incident occurred overnight, with rescue efforts underway.


Local police reported that some of the trapped individuals have sustained severe injuries. Authorities have established communication with those still trapped and have located the body of the deceased, although recovery efforts are ongoing.


“The severity of the damage has made this a highly complex and challenging operation,” the police stated, adding that emergency responders can only cautiously enter the compromised building in Kroev due to safety concerns.


Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, converged on the scene after the hotel's upper floor collapsed around 11pm on Tuesday. Dramatic footage showed an emergency responder carrying a barefoot woman to safety from the damaged building.


According to investigators, 14 people were inside the hotel when the incident occurred, with five managing to escape unharmed. Meanwhile, 31 nearby residents were evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure. The incident took place in the picturesque Moselle region, famous for its charming towns and vineyards situated on steep riverbanks.
